Ulrike Naumann is a partner in the Banking and Finance team. Ulrike regularly advises on secured lending, syndications, structured finance and preference share funding transactions, as well as acquisition finance, property finance, leveraged finance (particularly LBOs, both as advisor to senior and mezzanine funders) and a number of general corporate matters, including exchange-control matters. Ulrike has also been very involved in advising banks and financial institutions on various complicated debt restructuring transactions.
Ulrike also advises on capital markets transactions, with special expertise in advising South African corporates (amongst others FirstRand Bank Limited and Nedbank Limited) on the establishment of their European Medium Term Note Programmes and the issue of notes thereunder, as well as the issue of off-shore high yield notes. Ulrike advised on the first issue of a convertible bond listed on the JSE Limited, as well as the first issue of high yield notes under a Domestic Medium Term Note Programme listed on the JSE Limited in South Africa.
Ulrike undertook further studies in the Netherlands before moving to Germany to work as a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for International and Foreign Private Law in Hamburg. In 2005, Ulrike was awarded the Bachelor of Civil Law degree from the University of Oxford. Ulrike worked at a financial institution in the City of London, before returning to South Africa in 2006.
Ulrike has worked and lived in South Africa, England and Germany and is fluent in English, Afrikaans and German.
