Joanne Pretorius is a senior associate in Bowman Gilfillan’s corporate department and specialises in corporate and commercial; banking and finance; and administrative law. She holds an LLB degree (cum laude) from the University of the Witwatersrand and was admitted as an attorney in 2008.

Joanne served her articles at Bell Dewar and was appointed as an associate to their project finance department in 2007. She joined Bowman Gilfillan’s Banking and Finance Department as a senior associate in April 2010.

Joanne has had experience in an array of project finance deals which have ranged across diverse sectors, such as power and energy; telecommunications; and transport and infrastructure. Such deals include the following: advising the South African National Roads Agency Limited (“SANRAL”) in relation to a public private partnership for the design, construction, finance, operation and maintenance of Winelands National Route 1 and National Route 2 as toll highways; advising Netcare Limited in relation to the public private partnership for the design, construction and financing of a new public referral hospital and the upgrade, refurbishment and operation of existing filter clinics in Lesotho; advising in respect of the construction of open cycle gas turbine peaking power generation plants in the Independent Power Peaking (“IPP”) Project; and advising the lead arrangers, Lenders and other finance parties in relation to the long term funding syndicated facility of R4.4 billion to Neotel (Proprietary) Limited, South Africa’s second fixed line operator.

Joanne has an interest in music, theatre and long distance running. She takes part in various marathons during the year, including the Two Oceans Ultra and Knysna marathon.
