Charles’s principal areas of practice include mergers and acquisitions (of both public and private companies), general corporate finance and equity capital markets. He has practiced in these areas for nearly ten years. His whole legal career has been spent at Bowman Gilfillan, other than for a period of two years when he practiced in London at one of the City’s leading law firms.
Charles’s experience covers the breadth of corporate transactional work, although he has developed a particularly strong focus on public takeovers. He has been involved in a number of the more high profile inward investment transactions within the South African market place (including: CFR Pharmaceuticals on its offer for Adcock Ingram; Morgan Stanley as adviser to Massmart on Walmart’s partial offer for Massmart; Old Mutual on its aborted negotiations for the disposal of Nedbank to HSBC; and Associated British Foods on its partial offer for Illovo Sugar).
