| Consumer Protection Act, 2008: Draft enforcement guidelines published for comment
The Commissioner of the National Consumer Commission that has been established under the Consumer Protection Act, 2008 (CPA) published draft guidelines on the enforcement of the CPA on 18 February 2011, for public comment. Comments on the draft guidelines are required to be submitted, by fax or e-mail, to the Commission by 10 March 2011. This is just ahead of the general effective date, being 1 April 2011, on which the majority of the substantive provisions of the CPA will come into effect. The draft guidelines contain information on the manner in which the Commission will exercise its powers in terms of the CPA and the role that it will play in the adjudication of disputes.
